For the Atlanta basketball community and the hoops culture across the country, Holiday Hoopsgiving has become intertwined with the week of Thanksgiving and what it brings. Set for November 23-24 at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School, the 5th Annual Holiday Hoopsgiving promises to take a great experience to another level as some of Georgia's and the country's best high school teams and players compete under one roof.
Holiday Hoopsgiving has earned its national reputation for providing some of the best matchups in the country, including a mixture of storied programs, national contenders, and some of the best teams in the Southeast.
The brainchild of Christopher Williams and his wife Tiffany, Holiday Hoopsgiving was created to take top tier basketball and use it as a platform to raise awareness for children and families battling leukemia. Proceeds from Holiday Hoopsgiving benefit Play For Orange, a foundation created to support the ongoing research for a cure and assist with direct patient care programs that ease financial, social, and emotional burdens of low income patients and their families in the Atlanta area. As part of the Hoopsgiving weekend, particpating teams and coaches visit a local hospital to deliver gifts and donations to some of the young patients.
“Hands down, this will be one of the biggest high school basketball events ever brought to the state of Georgia, and it’s for a great cause” said Williams. “It should be a lot of fun for our crowd onsite and watching online on SUVtv.”
You’ll never see the Williams’ resting on their laurels, but the impact and growth of the event is impossible to ignore given the talent featured each year and the stage its become for Atlanta basketball specifically and elite basketball in general. Basketball fans that can’t make it to the event can watch all of the high school basketball games live and on demand on SUVtv.
“For high school hoops fans, the Friday after Thanksgiving is Holiday Hoopsgiving time,” says Marques Burnett, Founder of SUVtv. "We're looking forward to another year of live & on demand broadcasts to make Hoopsgiving fans feel like they are there even when they can't be."
